Spoon Mirror

I love the plastic spoon mirrors I have been seeing
on Pinterest!

I knew that was the perfect thing to put over Cailin's crib.
So I bought 2 packages (48 each) of plastic spoons at the dollar store.
My mom gave me a round hand mirror that I was able to
pop the mirror out of the frame.

I cut the handles off all the spoons with tin snips.

As you can see, they didn't always cut cleanly. But
the jagged edges will be hidden when you start gluing
them in a circle.

Then I cut a 10 inch circle out of carboard and started
gluing the spoons down starting at the outside. I left a
space in between and started the second row there. Then
just kept going until I got to the center.

I left enough space in the middle for the mirror. Then I spraypainted
it watermelon pink and glued the mirror down.
I love it! I think it adds just the right amount
of color above her cirb.

Ruffled Curtains

Oh another nursery post! That's probably all it's going
to be for a while. Lol! There are just so many
projects I have planned for that room. But I'm slowly running out
of time. She'll be here in less than 2 weeks!

The nursery has one window. I knew I wanted curtains not
just a valance. I debated for a while if I wanted
a print fabric, or a solid color. After I saw this picture,
I finally made up my mind.

Again Mom came to the rescue! I haven't had time to sew.
So she used About a Girl and a Pug's tutorial and made
the curtains out of a white bed sheet.

I love it! Perfectly girly and doesn't compete with the
other bright patterns in the room.

Now to finish the wall art for either side of the window,
the rug, quilt, crib mobile...

Crib

I got a few more things done in the nursery.
Well...actually I should say my mom got
a few things done for the nursery. She's been a big
help while I have been working on the wall art.

She finished the bumper pads and crib skirt. I knew I wanted to
use the space under the crib for storage, mainly all
the diapers I am picking up on sale.
My inspiration came from
 Positively Splendid's ruffled crib skirt.

I love her use of patterns and colors.

I had chosen MoMo's Oh Deer as my inspiration fabric for the bumper pads.

So I went with pink and aqua chevron from Riley Blake for the crib skirt.

And here is the crib.

Don't mind the light pink crib sheet. At the time, that
was the only crib sheet we had. We've since changed it
out for white. So much better!

Faux Trophy Deer

As promised here is the tutorial for the faux deer head shown in

I first saw a tutorial for the deer head at Know And Tell

But when I got to the point of wanting to make it and actually
starting reading the tutorial, I realized Ty's deer head would
be very small. He printed the templates and cut his out of
two sheets of cardstock.

I wanted something a lot more substantial. So I keep looking.
Ty actually gave the credit for his deer head
to Christina Loff from Chronicle Books Blog. So I took
a look at her tutorial. She cut hers out
of foamcore board.  That is exactly the size I was looking for!

So I bought a 20"x30" 3/16" thick piece of
foamcore board at the Dollar Tree for $1.
And I traced the handy dandy templates Christina offers on her blog.

Then I cut out each piece with my woodburning tool. I think
this is only the second time I have used it. I got it several years
ago as a gift. I used the tip that looks like a razor blade
on the foamcore board and it cut like butter!
No nasty smell or burnt edges either. It was so easy.

Then I assembled the deer head according to the pictures.
Everything fits together like a puzzle.

Christina recommends cutting the mounting board out of 1/2 inch thick
foamcore board. I didn't have any foamcore board that thick so
I found an oval wooden sign I had bought at the Dollar Tree
several years ago. I spray painted it white and hot glued
the deer head to it.

And then hung it on the wall using Command strips.
I love those things!

Nursery Gallery Wall

I finally finished the nursery gallery wall.
And I love it!

I first chose the pictures I wanted to frame.
I have been happily pinning wall art and free
printables for months on Pinterest.

Now I had to weed my list down. It was a tough
decision, but I knew I wanted five or six.

So this is what I chose.

Tutorial coming soon!

I couldn't find the Dr. Seuss quote as a printable so I had to design
it in Photoshop.

Then I laid out out the frames I wanted to use and spray painted
them gray. Put the pictures in the frames and hung them
on the wall with the ever handy dandy Command strips.

I love it! And hubby approved. That's always good!

Dresser for the nursery

I needed a dresser for the nursery. I knew I wanted to
use the dresser as a changing table also. So I needed
a long dresser in order to have room for
the changing pad and a lamp.
I've seen some great looking dressers on Pinterest.

So I stalked the thrift store for several weeks before coming
across this beauty.

I snapped a quick picture and texted my husband. He
approved also so I ran to the register. They stuffed
it in the back of my SUV and away I went!

I took it to my dad's workshop and painted on it for
several weeks with no-VOC white paint from Olympic.
That stuff is the best! Absolutely no fumes at all.

I had originally planned to change out the hardware, but
with so many drawer pulls and knobs, it was going
to be expensive. I tried spray painting them with
Rustoleum's chrome spray paint and I think
they look just fine.

So glad to get that crossed off my to-do list!
